My shade of green... so far, by Cathy Nesbitt

One of the most important things I have learned about how to live a green life is to keep it simple. Take on one new green initiative at a time. If we try to change everything all at once, it could be overwhelming, frustration may set in and we ditch the whole thing. For the sake of the planet, do something green.

I used to joke that stand up comedy was my next career, since the worms have provided so much material.  During one of my classroom workshops, I had a container of castings (worm poo) and encouraged the students to touch it or smell it, if they were so inclined. One student after taking a good sniff said, “it doesn’t smell like mine, that’s for sure!” It is essential to have a sense of humour, especially when worms are the chosen profession.

If frustration sets in, I turn to laughter. Laughter raises the level of vibration and brings me to the present moment. You can’t laugh and cry at the same time.

My personal anthem is Ordinary Miracle by Sarah McLachlan. I believe every day is a miracle to be cherished.

People are finally ready to hear the green message. It’s in to be green. There are green shows sprouting up all over the place and existing shows are now adding green sections.  Great news for the planet!

Homer Simpson is not a friend of the Earth. Homer should be employed in alternative energy (solar/wind) and become a teetotalling vegetarian.

If I had it, I would spend a million dollars on setting up composting programs and community gardens to provide nutritional food for people.

Ignorance is the biggest challenge.

We only have one planet earth. Our natural resources are not infinite. Let’s take better care of them.

My epitaph:  Cathy Nesbitt has returned home to feed the family.
